With your support we will be able to:

  • Provide training for 15 CAR youth this summer through our Youth Leadership Training to learn about how tell their stories and advocate to elected officials and community about their experience to gain support and start healing.
  • Youth Leadership graduates will spearhead the organizing of the Central American Youth Conference In September 19, 2015 at Santee Educational Complex.
  • Facilitate a preventive holistic health process of integration of the youth, which will be launched within the youth conference, workshops and the resource fair.
  • Youth will enjoy Central American art, culture and music to address issues of identity.

MAKE YOUR DONATION

Homies Unidos started reaching out to schools and community service providers to refer CAR youth who needs mental health or legal services. As part of a preventive strategy we began implementing the National Compadres Network’s Joven Noble curriculum, character development program to provide a safe space where they can express themselves with indigenous traditional tools. Even though, with limited resources we have served over 58 youth in four different schools: Santee High, Hawthorne High, Hawkins High and L.A. River.   Through this Conference we will address the need to bring youth from other schools where to a place where they can share experiences and be introduced to health and legal services providers among other resources.

Cierren La Escuela De Las Americas!!!

Wednesday, October 15th, 2014

Homies Unidos has advocated for just policies to deal with the issue of violence that plagues not just the streets of Los Angeles but also the streets of Central America. We will be joining School of The Americas Watch in their mission to close down this school that has trained many dictators an assassins throughout Latin America. As part of our Youth Leadership training on civic engagement, we will be taking five youth who have graduated from our program to Columbus, GA and will be presenting on how, what happens in Latin America, affects our youth in the streets of Los Angeles. We will be screening the Fruits of War documentary and educating people from all parts of the U.S. about the work that Homies Unidos does and at the same time creating leaders of our youth who at one point where disfranchised and now are developing into advocates for social justice.

Help us raise the funds to take our youth to have this once in a lifetime amazing experience. DONATE NOW

LA ALIANZA POR LOS DERECHOS HUMANOS DE LOS NINOS REFUGIADOS Y SUS FAMILIAS,

SB982 as written is bad for our incarcerated people!!!

Sunday, May 18th, 2014

Please send your representative in the California senate a message that solitary confinement is an inhumane act that needs to stop. That Hancock’s SB982 will make it a law for anyone suspected to be part of any prison group or what they call Security Threat Groups to be segregated in a secure housing unit without having committed any violation of any serious crime.

Although this bill also has important amendments to what is now in place, listed below, we suggest people not supported under its current form.

SB982 has Important issues but it is undermined by the codification of security threat groups:

Increased oversight and accountability.

Integrity and fair treatment in detention decisions.

Humane conditions in the SHUs (Security Housing Units, or solitary confinement).

Positive incentives for inmates to change their lives.
